What year Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone is the best?
I know that the sooner the better, but I think I heard someone whisper that 1957 was the best year? What year should I look for in finding one? Production of years had the best sound?

I played a Mark VII for about 20 years now. I was in high school and the only complaint I ever had was that the D-East was flat. If I open the keys left a little when he fixes this problem. I always heard that the Mark VI has been much better if I was looking for. The one I found had a serial number 160xxx made to put around 1969. I was shocked to see that it sounded no different than my VII. I simply changed the mouthpiece I was using on the seventh and I'm always happy. I'd like to try all the older models but have not found one yet to try.However, I heard that the Selmer Reference 54 models has recently released a warning is very simular to VI. If I you I want to study a bit more before plopping a pile of money and be just a little happy. Best of luck!

David Murray's Cuban Ensemble Meets Nat “King” Cole
Around 4 p.m. on a steamy, somnolent Labor Day, saxophonist David Murray, in from Paris, was hard at work at Manhattan’s Carroll Studios. Wearing a cream-colored linen shirt and white pants, both darkened with sweat, Murray, positioned at the rim of a U-shaped cohort of A-list local Cubans, was soloing through his arrangement of “Tres Palabras.”
After a rhapsodic middle section, Murray, 56, sipped vin rouge from a plastic cup and stood before trap drummer Ludwig Afonso and conguero Yusnier Sanchez. “We’re going to go into a dance tempo here,” he said, launching an animated stomp. They transitioned to a vigorous rumba. Murray blew slithery, guttural lines from his Selmer Mark VI tenor. He stopped on a dime and faced pianist Manuel Valera, then alto saxophonist Yosvany Terry. “Let’s go back to where I enter. It’s not on the paper, but go into whatever riff you get into.” The band complied, and Murray, who practices like he performs, preached a while
