RECREATION A new lease on life for Caroline facility
BY TAFT COGHILL JR. AND PORTSIA SMITH
It's been nearly a year since the Virginia Sports Complex in Caroline County shut its doors.
But that is beginning to change.
The complex is hosting baseball tournaments and showcase events this summer to utilize the eight baseball fields.
Also, a group of strangers with the same dream have teamed up as a nonprofit organization that aims to motivate suburban and at-risk youth through education and athletics. They're set to utilize the 45,000-square-foot indoor facility.
The complex closed last September when co-owners John Henry Attkisson and Greg Haley began to experience financial problems in other businesses. Attkisson has since sold his small pharmaceutical company. Haley's building business is doing better now.
"We feel like we're in a situation where we both have our feet back on the ground," said Attkisson, a Richmond resident. "We feel like we can bring this place back to the point where we want it to be."
Moodswings: DONALD BYRD
Making its outdated my first time on CD, this show in 1967 finds the trumpeter Donald Byrd picking up pieces of his profession undeniably laudable bop before he veered off on the merger and atmospheric conditions. His feat in partnership with third-acrid tone alto saxophonist Sonny Red (aka Sylvester Kyner) moves into a reckless spoliation Soulfully the start-off cut Christen (including drummer Billy Higgins, in a rare front, you can say 'Jack Robinson 'verbosity, peppers with statements funky vocal) and sustains an attractive feature even-tempered.The album includes renditions easy standards "surreptitiously Passion" and "My imaginary" and two originals turned out well by pianist Cedar Walton, who is also in the stage of the measure with the bassist Walter Booker. Nothing earthshaking here, but a nice trip anyway.
