Electric and Standup bass practice?

I just joined jazz band at my school as its new bassist. They gave me some music that I had for most of the model number. Once discovered, that, I spent some time trying to understand how to read the agreements. Once I was able to understand how to read, I tried to play some of my music. I found it very difficult to play notes in the strings and keep changing the tempo.

Does anybody know of any way I could get better at this? As something to practice, or some other resource. Thank you for the help.

To get used to walking on the songs you play in the band, here's what I recommend:

Get an ear for chord changes.
Start by reading a two-stroke with only the roots of the agreements. If the piece is in 4 / 4, the game with two beats per measure and keep the root. Try to hear the melody of the song in your head (it's uh, if you can) during this operation.

Then, play a two-step with the first time as the root and the third time the measure as another key agreement. For example, if a measure is a C7, you could play C on the first and E on the third time.Continue to hear the melody in your head that you do.

Once you do though, try to walk four beats per measure. As it can be difficult to do if you are not used, begin by playing only the roots of agreements on the four beats per measure. When you can not make time, try to play two different notes for each measure, each playing two times (if C7, CCEE play or something like that). Once you do that, let you mix with a wider range notes. During all this time trying to hear the melody in your mind.

Use a metronome.

While doing what is described above, use a metronome.Start as slow as you need. Especially when you start walking four beats per measure, time seems to pass quickly and you will need to concentrate more to keep fighting.

When you walk four beats per measure, keep in mind that time is of the utmost importance. Stay with your metronome anything, even if you flub up a few notes. It's up to you to keep track of time well. If you can not think fast enough to walk with a variety of notes, then continue to take all the notes that you can think of your agreements, even if only one or two different notes for each measurement.

Practice with time in mind that the most important thing up tempo with a metronome. That way, when you go into practice in your group, you'll be able to keep time for everyone.

Practice with the metronome too slow, focusing more on the selection grade. The slow down as much as you need to think clearly and stay on the beat. Do not accelerate until you're comfortable with yourself at a slower tempo. Eventually you get up to tempo you're in the band and will be able to improvise fluid basslines comfortably in every song.

Congrats on your brilliant choice of instrument and good luck! If you need more tips, please send me an email.

For the temporary use of a metronome. It helps a lot especially when you can not keep pace with the drummer and the rest of the band. Try to follow the conductor in jazz band and use a metronome while you practice. Bass does not use strings, but his single note at a time. Jazz guitar is the instrument that uses strings. You must be able to read music which is on the staff and not just look at the root (or agreement) to the top of most measures. When playing a walking bass line (all black) will usually change the notes a lot and when you have a walking bass line I recommend using an electric bass (if you have one). He frets so there is no guessing where your fingers should be.
Hope that helps!

Living Deads bring rockabilly to Erie's Crooked I

You could argue Jonny Barber was born in the wrong decade.

It's 2011, and what music style does he play? Not hard-core, country, rap or techno but old-school rockabilly, the kind with slappin' stand-up bass and hiccup-y vocals favored by long-gone icons such as Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Gene Vincent.

Maybe it was fate. His mom, Phyllis Barber, a classical pianist, worked in Las Vegas, playing burlesque shows with Sally Rand in the 1950s. A friend invited her to the New Frontier in 1956 to see the first Vegas show by an up-and-coming artist named Elvis Presley.

"He was just breaking out nationally, so not everyone had heard of him. But she went to the show," said Barber.

Years later, Barber -- who bears a passing resemblance to the King -- and the Living Deads bust out songs by Elvis, Johnny Cash, Perkins, Johnny Burnett and others. Along with their own vintage-style originals, they also cover Stray Cats, Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and Ramones' "Rockaway Beach."
